The Spiritual Meaning of The 8 Moon Phases

Each phase of the Moon has a significant meaning, and these phases can affect your life in positive ways if you’re willing to learn more about them. There are rituals you can do as well in order to make each phase work in your favor on a spiritual and metaphysical level.

The New Moon

The New Moon is usually considered to be the first phase of the lunar cycle, and the moon cannot be seen because it is between the Earth and the Sun. What this phase represents is making new beginnings, fresh starts, and introspection. It is a good time to set new intentions.

Even though the energies of this lunar phase are the weakest, you can still set intentions by making fresh starts. Clean your personal area. Meditate on what you want and what your goals are and think about what you want to achieve during this cycle.

A question to ask yourself during this time:

What do I want to achieve____ this moon cycle by doing________

The Waxing Crescent

This is the phase that comes 3 days after the New Moon and you can visually see a little bit of the Moon reflecting the sun. This is the phase that represents abundance and manifestation. This is because the moon is gradually getting more illuminated. Rituals that you can do during this phase can involve focusing on abundance.

Meditate on what you want to manifest. Are you a business owner and want to increase sales? Are you a writer and you are looking to have an abundance of ideas to write about? Do you want more abundance in the quality of relationships? Abundance can mean anything, not just money…although that is also a great thing to meditate during this time.

A question to ask yourself during this time:

What areas of life do I want more abundance in?

The First Quarter Moon

This phase happens 7 days after the New Moon, and you will see a quarter of the Moon reflecting the sun. This lunar phase represents healing yourself and personal growth. This is the time to take action on what you are wanting to manifest. Your intuition will begin to strengthen as well during this phase, and the best rituals to make the energies work in your favor is by pampering yourself.

Do some self-care during this time. It can be beauty and health treatments like massages or just some good ol’ R&R.

A question to ask yourself during this time:

What can I do, or where can I focus my attention on that involves self-care or personal growth?

The Waxing Gibbous

This phase starts 10 days after the New Moon and is almost full. However, this lunar phase represents the acknowledgment that the Universe has your back.

Be patient, relax, and be mindful of how the energies of the moon are influencing you. You have already taken action on what you want, so there really aren’t any rituals that you need to do during this phase other than prep yourself for the big one, which is the Full Moon.

A question to ask yourself during this time:

What were my intentions during the New moon and what actions have I taken that aligned with these intentions?

The Full Moon

This is the phase that everyone knows about. This is when the Sun is at the opposite side of the Earth and the Moon is fully lit up. This happens 14 days after the New Moon and this is a highly important and potent phase.

This is the time when you see the cause and effect of your actions over the past 14 days. This phase shows what you have succeeded in and what you also need to improve for the next cycle.

The Full Moon is when the energies are the strongest, intuition is at its highest, and psychic energies are strong. The Full Moon is the time to do any type of ritual you feel you want to do, and that will help you make the changes you want.

This is a great time to think about your goals and ways to let go of the things that do not serve you.

A question to ask yourself during this time:

What are the things in my life that are not promoting my highest good? How can I eliminate them?

The Waning Gibbous

This phase comes 3 days after the Full Moon, and the Moon is becoming slightly smaller. What this phase represents is removing negative energies.

This is the time to free yourself from what has been holding you back. Taking a cleansing bath and visualize any negative stuff being removed from your life.

A question to ask yourself during this time:

Three actions I can take to eliminate negative and unhelpful energies from my life are ___?

The Last Quarter

This is the phase that comes 7 days after the Full Moon, and the Moon is even smaller. This lunar phase represents a time of rest.

And you guessed it, the best thing to do during this time is to rest. Tie up those loose ends and begin to renew your energies on the inside. This is a great time to cut off toxic relationships of any kind or any type of relationship that is not serving you.

A question to ask yourself during this time:

Am I allowing myself enough quality time to rest and revitalize my inner world?

The Waning Crescent

This is the last phase before the next New Moon cycle and only a sliver of the Moon can be seen. This phase represents closure. This is not a time to start anything new. Instead, honor the moon for illuminating opportunities to attain your goals and show you what improvements to make.

This is the time to perform rituals that have to do with showing gratitude to yourself, your guides, and to the people who support you.

A question to ask yourself during this time:

Where or who can I show gratitude and appreciation?
